Planning the job from start to finish
Before any lifting could begin, we needed to establish a practical and safe method of removing the existing structures.
Our involvement included the initial consultation, site assessment, lift planning and development of the demolition methodology.
We worked through the lifting requirements, equipment selection, access considerations and the sequence of removal to ensure each stage could be carried out in a controlled manner.
Rather than simply providing cranes for a predetermined lift, Banks was involved in developing the solution itself.
Hands-on engineering and preparation
One of the key parts of this project was preparing the existing steelwork and equipment for removal.
Our team undertook hands-on engineering work, including gas cutting, grinding and welding lifting eyes to facilitate the planned lifting operations.
This practical experience is a major advantage when working with older industrial structures that weren't necessarily designed with removal in mind.
By combining engineering knowledge with crane lifting experience, we could plan and carry out the preparation work alongside the removal operations.
Crane-assisted demolition and heavy lifting
With the methodology established and the structures prepared, our mobile cranes were brought in to undertake the lifting operations.
The large industrial silo was separated from its supporting structure and lifted clear, allowing it to be safely lowered for transport.
Further crane lifts were undertaken to remove sections of the remaining supporting steelwork and associated equipment.
The work required careful coordination between the crane operators, rigging personnel and the demolition team throughout the various stages of removal.
Heavy transport and cartage
Removing the equipment from its original position was only part of the job.
Banks also coordinated the heavy transport required to cart the dismantled equipment away from the site.
Using our transport equipment alongside our mobile crane fleet meant the lifting and cartage operations could be organised together, reducing the need for separate contractors and simplifying the overall project.
Working with local contractors
A big thanks to Rocka Earthworks and Riverbank Engineering for their assistance on this project.
Their support helped bring together the demolition, engineering and heavy lifting elements of the job.
It's always great working alongside other local businesses to get these challenging projects completed.
One contractor. A complete solution.
Projects like this demonstrate that Banks Crane and Transport offers more than simply hiring out cranes.
We can help customers develop a practical solution for challenging lifting and removal projects, coordinate the required equipment and contractors, and manage the work through to completion.
Whether it's industrial equipment removal, crane-assisted demolition, machinery relocation or specialist heavy lifting, our team brings together the planning, practical experience and equipment needed to get the job done.
